Watching the stars glide down the red carpet, it can seem as if they never have a hair out of place. But as Jennifer Love Hewitt knows, it takes work to look this good. The Ghost Whisperer star looked radiant in black lace as she arrived for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse premiere in Los Angeles last night. But just a few hours earlier she had been working up a sweat with a hard session at the gym.

The brunette star left the session looking flushed, with her hair tied back, dressed in leggings and a loose T-shirt. But after a session in hair and make-up she looked one of the A-list. The 31-year-old slimmed down after seeing unflattering photos of herself in a bikini on holiday in Hawaii.Her new figure has led to a resurgence in her career. As well as publishing her first book, The Day I Shot Cupid, she is also starring in the TV movie The Client List, in which she plays a secret call girl. Jennifer lost her extra weight by hiring a personal trainer and working out five times a week.

She now limits herself to 1,500 calories a day and her work outs involve 50 minutes on the cross-trainer followed by 20 minutes of weight training. Transforming her figure has also had a positive effect on her self-esteem. 'I'm a much healthier eater and I love exercising,' she told People magazine. 'I enjoy the junk food more because I'm not eating it all the time. I'm trying to feel more confident in general.'

Jennifer admitted she had tried some quick fix ways of keeping fit in the past. 'I tried the grapefruit diet pill. It made me feel crazy. And apple cider vinegar pills... but I didn't really notice a difference,' she said. 'I've run on my treadmill in heels thinking it would help make better leg muscles. It doesn't it just hurts your back.'

And she even considered liposuction, although realised it wasn't for her. 'I remember thinking at one point, "I know, I'll have my hips lipo-ed off." 'You can't, it's bone. It doesn't work that way.'
